Description
The Bridge House is an imposing gatehouse built in an elegant classical style, constructed over the carriageway with two storeys above a tunnel arch. The elevations are rendered, and it features a shallow slate roof. The main facade faces south, towards the village. This facade includes a rusticated podium with a rusticated basket arch. Above the arch, there is a three-bay section with 12-pane sash windows flanked by Doric pilasters, and it is topped with a cornice and coping, culminating in four tall urns. To the left, there is a projecting two-storey canted bay window with similar sash windows on each face. The rear elevation features a large ogee-arched window at the centre, which has a moulded sandstone surround and is filled with diamond panes and coloured glass. Below this window, there is an inset decorative iron panel depicting a mermaid.
