Description

The Campanile, also known as The Bell Tower, is an impressive square stone tower built in the Mediterranean baroque style. It features rubble construction with rough-squared quoins and consists of five main stages, with the upper two stages rendered and the lower three stages having a slight taper. The lower stage has arched openings, and there are two additional arched entrances accessed from an external parapetted stair on the western face, along with an intermediate mezzanine level below. These entrances have recessed boarded doors.

On the north and south sides of the second stage, there are open-pedimented arches with shallow stone balconies, while the third stage above features arched openings with balustrading. Clock faces are present on the east and west sides of this stage. The rendered upper stages are slightly recessed and supported by angle buttresses, with the lowest of these being the bell chamber. This chamber has round-headed arches on each face, with the western and eastern arches flanked by Ionic columns.

The fifth stage has vertical window openings with external shutters and balustraded sections below. At the top of the tower is an octagonal stone cupola with voluted corners and large vertical openings on each face. This cupola is topped with a sloped copper roof, a golden ball finial, and a weather vane.
