Description
A flight of nine steps leads down from the main village lane to the Hercules monument, located directly opposite the Statue of Buddha. At the top of the steps, there are tall rendered piers topped with stone ball finials, along with short sections of turned balustrade that end in squat inner piers, which are also topped with stone urns. At the bottom of the steps, a decorative random-cobbled pavement continues downward, connecting from the southeast with a similar pavement that descends from the arch between Ladies Lodge and the Round House. Halfway down the pavement, near the Gothick Pavilion, there is a large stone sculpture of a recumbent lion on a stone plinth, which features a dedicatory cartouche.
