Description
The Colonnade is an impressive single-storey structure built in the Georgian Gothic style, featuring a balustraded parapet made of Bath stone ashlar. It has 16 slender columns and a semi-circular projecting bow at the center. At both ends, there are solid pavilions with archways that have depressed pointed arches, with the left archway being blind. The pavilions are topped with balustrades that are pierced on the sides and have turned balusters in the center. Each pavilion is adorned with stone ogee domes topped with ball finials. Behind the central projection, there is a raised rear wall that is surmounted by three large urns. Inside, at the center of the rear wall, is a stone ogee arched niche that holds a painted northern-Renaissance style angel sculpture, flanked by swagged cartouches. The Colonnade sits on a revetted rubble plinth, with a flight of rubble and slate steps leading up to it from the lawn to the south of the Central Piazza.
