Description

Ty Gwyn is a two-storey house featuring three windows, constructed with scribed render over stone and topped with a steeply-pitched slate roof that has end chimneys. The windows are metal casement style, with three casement windows on the first floor. The ground floor has a three-light casement window on each side of a central entrance. The entrance features a panelled door with a rectangular Gothic overlight, framed by a surround with a pediment and fluted pilasters that display Gothic detailing. There is an attic window on the right return.

At the rear, there is a two-storey cross range built with the same materials, featuring two chimneys on the ridge and a broad open porch or verandah with a slate roof. In the angle between the rear and front ranges, there is a single-storey block with a roof that sweeps down from the eaves of the main house. At the southeast corner of the house, a wall made of exposed stone has an arched doorway leading to the rear, with simple boarded doors. Attached to the southeast end of the wall is a two-storey painted rubble outbuilding, likely a former stable, which has its gable end facing the road. This outbuilding features a window at the upper level and, facing the house, has a window at eaves level, two doors, and a window on the ground floor, along with a doorway at the upper level in the rear gable. It also has old doors and blocked slit vents. A similar but lower two-storey block is positioned at right angles to this outbuilding.

Inside, the house has three bays with a narrow central hall that includes a single flight of stairs leading to a landing. The staircase features turned balusters and a square handrail with a shallow moulded top. In the southern room, there is a low stop-chamfered beam, two panel fielded doors with left hinges, a built-in oak corner cupboard, and a fireplace both adorned with fluted columns. The northern room has a boarded door with strap hinges, while the pantry also has a boarded door with strap hinges. The rear room includes an inglenook with a curved bressumer and a chamfered cross beam, along with a plank door similar to the pantry. On the first floor, the southern room has an old two-panel oak door, and the northern room features an early oak door leading to a cupboard to the left of the chimney. A simple staircase leads to the attic, which contains two rooms with boarded doors; the northern room has an early double casement window with a metal frame and a large wrought-iron handle.
