Description
The structure consists of a flight of thirteen sandstone steps located southwest of St Cyngar's Church, accompanied by rubble parapets and slab-coping. The left parapet features an incised date of 1702 along with the letters 'IE RI (?) IO (?) RLL WARDEN(S)' on its bottom front face. The copings on the right-hand parapet are slightly moulded, while the left parapet has three metal spikes. At the top of the steps, there is a plain stone stile flanked by small square piers, which have been heightened with rendered brick. The finial on the left pier is broken, and the right pier has been reconstructed. To the northwest, there is a short section of a curved revetment wall that is contemporary with the steps, featuring sandstone capping and sloping down into a grassed bank on the left, with a rectangular outlet on the right. To the right of the steps, a similar stretch of wall continues in an arc to the southeast for about 50 meters before ending at a stone stile, which is likely also contemporary. This stile has three steps leading up to it and is flanked by small 19th-century square sandstone piers topped with pyramidal capping stones.
