Description
The structure consists of steps, gates, and gatepiers located to the west of St Cyngar's Church. The gatepiers are made of rusticated rock-cut sandstone and stand approximately 2.8 meters high. They feature chamfered bases, a plain cornice, and a moulded capping. At the top of each pier, there are Gothic cast iron lamp standards with open trefoil decoration on four-branch bases. Each pier also has inscription stones on the front face, which bear an inscribed memorial dedication.
The gates are crafted in a Gothic style, showcasing fine cast iron work. The lower section has open tracery, while the upper section features quatrefoils and arcading. The lower section is adorned with spear-head finials, and the upper section has cusped, pointed-arched heads topped with fleur-de-lis type finials, although several of these finials are missing.
On either side of the gatepiers, there are 2-meter high sections of similar rock-faced wall that extend about 4 meters on each side. These walls continue as sloped revetment walls for the churchyard. The walls then return eastward into the churchyard, flanking two flights of five steps each that lead up behind the gates.
