Description
Plas Deon is a three-storey detached house built of rubble with a scribed render finish, topped by a slate roof featuring plain bargeboards and large rendered end chimneys. The symmetrical facade has three bays with a central entrance that includes a panelled door with a marginally-glazed upper section and a 10-pane rectangular overlight. The original unhorned sash windows consist of 16 panes on the ground and first floors and 9 panes on the second floor, with a cellar light on the left. The windows are recessed and have projecting slatestone sills.
The central first-floor opening leads to an entrance that opens onto a flat-roofed verandah extending along the ground floor. This entrance features 20th-century 6-pane double doors. The verandah is supported by four slender fluted cast iron columns with concrete plinth blocks and has wooden lattice panels at the ends. The flat roof of the verandah is made of concrete, which replaced the original slate flagging in the mid-20th century. The verandah is enclosed by simple arcaded railings with additional mid-20th-century steel railings. Access to the verandah is provided by an original long flight of 12 stone steps with plain 20th-century rails, followed by three concrete steps at the top and 20th-century reconstituted stone piers at the approach.
On the left gable end of the house, there is a 6-pane horizontal window on the first floor with a segmental arch, along with two small second-floor windows, each with 4 panes. The rear of the house features 16- and 9-pane windows, as well as a tall 24-pane central stair light. A single-storey pitched service block is attached to the left side of the rear elevation, which has a squat rendered end chimney and a modern uPVC door on the right return, with a window to the right and another plain-glazed window to the left in an earlier opening.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
