Description
The Village Pump is a tall cast iron water pump designed to resemble a gate pier. It has a square shape and stands approximately 2.2 meters high. The sides feature vertical sunk panels adorned with egg-and-dart decoration, and it rests on a moulded plinth. Above this, there is an egg-and-dart and acanthus frieze topped with a moulded cornice. The pump is capped with a shallow ogee section that has a decorative foliated finial on top. The front of the pump includes a centrally-placed spout with a simple square catch trough beneath it. Above the spout, there is a cartouche with raised lettering that reads: 'Cofeb y cyhoedd am Enedigaeth Etifedd Wynnstay Ionawr 25. 1891.' Both the front and rear faces display a foundry mark in raised letters that says 'Coalbrookdale.' Additionally, the rear face features a long curved handle positioned at the center.
