Description

This is a two-storey terrace of six cottages, originally built in the 18th century. The first five cottages were originally single-window dwellings, with the left-hand cottage being larger and containing two windows, suggesting a former shop use. The buildings are constructed from local igneous rubble with a continuous, medium-pitched slate roof and six chimneys made of buff stock brick, featuring cornice banding and offset dentilations. The ground-floor windows are arched brick openings. First-floor windows are set under the eaves. Number 1 has a central entrance and a large window on the left. It has a modern door and uPVC windows designed to resemble small-pane cross-windows, both on the ground and first floors. Numbers 2 and 3 are also two-window units. Number 2 has a part-glazed 20th-century door and uPVC windows imitating four-pane ground-floor windows and two-pane casements above. Number 3 retains its original boarded door and small-pane, timber-framed cross-windows with wrought iron opening lights. To the right of number 3, a former single-window cottage has been divided and incorporated into numbers 3 and 4. The original entrance to this cottage is now a plain-glazed window, part of number 3. The adjacent window, now part of number 4, is a plain-glazed, two-pane 20th-century casement. This unit has a plain 20th-century door and a matching window to the right. The upper floor of number 4 also has plain two-pane casements. Number 5 retains its original door and first-floor window, as previously described. Number 6 has uPVC cross-windows and a modern, out-of-character, part-glazed door. The interior of the cottages was not inspected.
