Description

The Telford Milestone is made of dressed Anglesey limestone and dates from the 19th century. It features a shallow triangular head with raking chamfered sides. There is a cast iron inset plate with white lettering on a black background that reads: HOLYHEAD / 18 / MONA / 5 / BANGOR / 7.

The milestone is set in front of a rubble arch that is part of a boundary wall. This arch is a well-preserved example of a “Telford Arch,” which is believed to have been designed to enhance and draw attention to the milestone.
