Description

The Telford Milestone is a well-preserved example made of dressed Anglesey limestone. It features a shallow triangular head and raking chamfered sides. There is a cast iron inset plate with white lettering on a black background that reads: HOLY- / HEAD / 6 / MONA / 7 / BANGOR / 19. The milestone is set in front of a rubble arch that is part of a boundary wall, which is recognized as a "Telford Arch." This design is believed to have been intended to enhance and draw attention to the milestone.
