Description
Commemorative war memorial; a Celtic Revival style limestone cross. The head of the cross has splayed arms decorated with celtic knots; a recessed circular band linking the arms is decorated with a continuous cable pattern. The shaft is rectangular with tapering sides to the head; the front face has 2 recessed panels, the upper panel with simple intertwined design to the top, the lower bearing an inscription in Welsh and names of the men of Gaerwen who fell in the Great War. The cross is mounted on a rectangular plinth with raking top and recessed panels to the angles; the front face bears the names of the men of Gaerwen who fell in the Second World War. The plinth stands on a shallow rectangular base. The cross is set in an enclosed area raised up from the level of the pavement to front; the area is bound with cast iron railings, with chains across an opening to front.
