Description

The War Memorial is a commemorative structure designed in the Celtic Revival style, made of limestone. It features a cross with splayed arms that are adorned with Celtic knots. A recessed circular band connects the arms and is decorated with a continuous cable pattern. The shaft of the cross is rectangular and tapers towards the head. The front face includes two recessed panels; the upper panel displays a simple intertwined design at the top, while the lower panel features an inscription in Welsh along with the names of the men from Gaerwen who died in the Great War.

The cross is mounted on a rectangular plinth that has a raking top and recessed panels at the corners. The front of the plinth lists the names of the men from Gaerwen who fell in the Second World War. This plinth rests on a shallow rectangular base. The memorial is situated in an enclosed area that is elevated above the pavement level at the front, surrounded by cast iron railings, with chains across an opening at the front.
