Description
Penhwnllys Plas is a two-storey farmhouse with a service wing at the rear and single-storey additions on either end. It is constructed from roughly coursed rubble masonry and features a slate roof with gable dormers along the main range, as well as a flat-roofed dormer in the service wing. The house has square gable stacks, with a large stack on the left and a small rendered stack on the service wing.
The front has three window openings that are offset to the right, with a modern doorway in a rendered porch that has a single-pitched roof. The windows are modern timber casements, and the flanking ground floor windows have relieving arches above them, while the first-floor windows are located in the gable dormers. On the right gable, there are blocked windows that still have their original mullions.
Inside, the house has a central passage plan with an enclosed timber staircase featuring stick balusters and a plain rail. The sitting room on the left retains chamfered hewn beams and joists, and the inglenook fireplace has a massive stone bressumer supported by an iron lintel. The other ground floor room on the right has a beaded boarded ceiling, and similar boarding is also present in the bedrooms. The first-floor rooms showcase exposed pegged trusses, with walls below the collars made of wattle and daub.
