Description

Cefn is a complete enclosed farmstead group that includes a two-storey farmhouse on the left (west) with a garden. To the right (east) of the farmhouse is a small barn and cowhouse, with a stable and cartshed range set at right angles to the right end of the barn. Adjacent to the south gable of the cartshed range is a gateway, and to the left of this is a single-pitched roofed outbuilding, which forms the southern side of an enclosed yard. There is also a modern lean-to addition against the rear (east) wall of the cartshed range. The buildings are constructed of roughly dressed, coursed masonry, while the farmhouse is rendered. The roof is covered with small old slates, featuring a tiled ridge and copings, and has rectangular dressed stone stacks with capping that indicates the extent of the house.

The farmhouse has a two-window range with widely spaced, unequal hornless sash windows, each with 12 panes, positioned directly under the eaves. The ground floor features a glazed porch with a slate roof and a central doorway that spans the width of the front elevation. To the right, there is a single window wing, which may serve as a service bay, with a similar window on the first floor; the ground floor of this wing could not be seen during the survey. The barn to the right is shorter, with a doorway on the left and three ventilation slits on the right; its wide doorway has a segmental head made of dressed stone voussoirs. The lower cowhouse to the right also has a doorway on the left. The stable and cartshed range features doorways with segmental heads of dressed stone voussoirs; to the right (south) are two wide cart bay doors, along with smaller doorways to the left. There is a single window in the south gable apex, and the rear of the range has a modern lean-to addition with wide openings along the east wall. A single-pitched outbuilding runs along the southern side of the cobbled yard, which was not seen during the survey. The gateway to the yard is on the right, while to the left is an embattled garden wall at a lower level, featuring a simple single gateway of tall rails linked at the top, with alternating short rails topped with arrowhead finials.

The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
