Description

Rhos y gad is a two-storey farmhouse dating from the 18th century. It features a three-window range with a doorway located in a narrow gabled porch that is offset to the right end. At the rear of the house, there is a dairy and service wing covered by a catslide roof. Adjacent to the right end of the house is a two-unit cowhouse that opens into the yard at the back, which has been extended with a single-pitched roof outshut.

The farmhouse is constructed of rubble masonry, with the exterior pebbledashed, while the cowhouse is limewashed. The porch and dairy are built of brick. The roof of the house is covered with small slates, partially grouted, and features a tiled ridge and copings. There is a rendered rectangular stack with dripstones and capping, gable stacks, and an additional ridge stack located between the first and second windows. One side of the cowhouse has a roof of small slates with a tiled ridge and copings, while the other side is covered with profiled asbestos sheeting. The house faces southeast towards the garden.

The front door is panelled, and the windows are four-pane sashes with slate sills. The rear doors are boarded, and the first-floor window is an unequal hornless sash with nine panes, positioned under the eaves. The cowhouse opens into the yard at the back, consisting of a two-unit range with boarded doors; the main elevation includes a single-paned light on the right, and the rear outshut has a small four-paned light on the left.

The interior was not inspected during the survey.
