Description

Maes-y-garnedd is a 2-storey farmhouse dating from the 18th century, accompanied by an agricultural range that includes a cartshed, barn, and an attached lean-to at the southwest end. The farmhouse features a linear design aligned from northeast to southwest and has a three-window facade with a gabled porch positioned near the center.

The building is constructed from mortared rubble masonry, with large stones used for the quoins and lintels. It has a slate roof with stone copings at the northeast end, supported by rough stone kneelers. The gable stacks are topped with dripstones and capping. The windows are modern casements, including a large three-pane window to the left of the porch, with a two-pane light set under the eaves above. There is a similar first-floor window offset to the right of the porch, and on the far right, there are four-pane lights, with the first-floor window located in a gabled dormer that interrupts the eaves line. At the rear, there is a rendered brick addition featuring modern doors and windows, along with two rooflights in the roof pitch above.

The attached lofted cartshed is built from roughly coursed rubble, including some large boulders, and has a slate roof with stone coping. The main entrance consists of a wide cartbay opening, with two loft windows positioned under the eaves above. At the rear, there is a smaller doorway with a ventilation slit to the right and a pitching hole under the eaves to the left. The building at the southwest end has been re-roofed with profiled sheeting and provides access via the open side to the rear; it features a single pitched roof with a partially blocked doorway in the southwest wall.

Inside, the house retains its original cross passage plan, with a larger hall on one side and a former heated parlour on the other. The hall originally had a lateral fireplace, which has since been replaced by a gable end fireplace, with a winding stair alongside; both features are still present.
