Description

Loch Lomond And Trossachs National Park Planning Authority

Dated 1860, March Cottage appears to have been built as a lodge connected with the Ardvorlich Estate. Part of the Ardvorlich Estate and contributes to the landscape, as a picturesque roadside cottage.

March Cottage is a 1½-storey 3-bay gable-fronted cottage with a lower wing to the rear.

It is likely that March Cottage was initially built with just the front rectangular block. The front (S) elevation has a central entrance with a small slated gabled porch, a gabled bay to the left and a dormer to the right bay. At the rear a further 2-storey block almost the full width of the front was later added, with a single door facing the loch to the N.

Interior: although the cottage has been modernised, the interior retains elements such as the timber stair and a plain timber chimneypiece.

Materials: rubble throughout. Grey slate roof. Stone wallhead stacks and clay cans. Timber sash and case lying-pane windows. Cast iron rainwater goods.
