Description
2 and 4 Church Square is an earlier 19th-century building that serves as a two-storey and attic, three-bay house and public bar, which was formerly a bakery. It is located on a significant corner site, with the main elevation facing Church Square and a single-storey extension forming an L-plan at right angles to the rear. The exterior features white painted harl with pink granite dressings. A corner door has a distinctive triangular cyma recta detail above it, and there is a central flat-roofed dormer. The eastern elevation includes a large multi-paned window.
Most of the windows on the eastern side are predominantly later 20th-century plate glass timber sash and case, while some 12-pane timber sash and case windows can be found in the single-storey extension. The building has raised coping with skewputts, a graded grey slate roof, coped gable stacks, and cast iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the building has been extensively modernised, but it retains some simple cornicing.
