Description

The Starbank Arms is an early 19th-century public house located at 62-64 Laverockbank Road in Edinburgh. It consists of two adjoining, two-storey, three-bay symmetrical houses. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, projecting cills on the windows, an eaves band, and prominent rusticated quoins.

The east elevation has six bays that are regularly fenestrated, with doors located in the centre bay of each house. To the left, there is a glazed door with a plate glass fanlight above, adorned with a cornice that has fluted detail and a panel above featuring a shell motif at the corners. The door to the right has a cement surround and steps leading up to it. Additionally, there are four slate-hung piend-roofed attic dormers.

The north elevation, facing Starbank Road, has three bays and features a quatrefoil motif in the pedimented gable. There is a later single-storey extension to the west that includes a long window.

The windows are fitted with 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are stone skews with corniced ashlar stacks at the ridge, some of which have been rebuilt, topped with circular cans.
