Description
42 Laverockbank Road is an early 19th century house with later additions. It is a simple classical, two-storey, three-bay building featuring a piend roof and a later projecting porch. The structure is built of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, including base and first-floor cill courses.
The principal elevation is regularly fenestrated. It has two-leaf timber panelled storm doors with a decorative fanlight above, set in a projecting rendered porch that includes a cornice, blocking course, and lancet windows on the returns. To the right on the ground floor, there is a red sandstone canted bay, while to the left, there is a later cement rendered single-storey bay with a canted window.
On the rear elevation, there is a glazed door in the centre bay, and it is regularly fenestrated except for two small irregularly-set windows at the ground floor in the left bay.
The boundary walls are very high sandstone rubble walls topped with clinker and stone. There are corniced stop-chamfered (painted) gatepiers with pyramidal caps, and a stone lintelled footgate to the left.
The first-floor windows feature a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case, while the ground floor windows have plate glass in sash and case. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped ashlar wallhead stacks along with a very tall narrow new cement stack with a circular can to the south.
