Shelter Stone, Grampian Road, Aviemore

Shelter Stone, located on Grampian Road in Aviemore, is a villa built in the late 19th to early 20th century, designed in the Highland estate style. It is a single storey and attic structure with three bays, featuring finialled gabled dormerheads. The building is constructed from granite ashlar and roughly squared rubble, accented with contrasting sandstone ashlar dressings, and includes a part base course.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, featuring a central two-leaf panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight above. A single dormer-headed window breaks the eaves above the door, flanked by wide-centre tripartite windows with glazed returns in the outer bays. These outer bays also have decorative bargeboarding, a slated piended roof, and brattishing leading to the dormer window.

The northeast elevation has a gabled design with a low extension adjoining on the right side. The windows are timber sash and case, featuring a 4-pane glazing pattern over plate glass lower sashes. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans. The eaves overhang and plain bargeboarding are complemented by cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.
