Description

Glenspey, located on Grampian Road in Aviemore, is a villa built in the late 19th to early 20th century. This single storey and attic, three-bay building showcases a typical Highland estate style, featuring gabled dormerheads. The structure is constructed from squared rubble granite, with some sections in Aberdeen bond, random rubble, and contrasting sandstone dressings. It has segmental-headed dormers, raked cills, stop-chamfered arrises, and stone mullions.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, featuring a full-width, slated verandah-type porch that incorporates the outer bays. This porch has decorative bargeboarding and brattishing, with a broad opening at the center that includes a two-leaf panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight. Above this, a single gabled dormer breaks the eaves. Below the bipartite dormers, there are wide-centre tripartite windows with glazed returns in the outer bays.

The north and west elevations are gabled, each with a window at the center on both floors. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames, while the dormer windows have double glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans. The eaves overhang, featuring plain bargeboarding and decorative bargeboarding with pendant finials on the dormers, adds to the building's character. Additionally, there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

The property is enclosed by low saddleback-coped boundary walls, which are complemented by pyramidally-coped square-section ashlar gatepiers.
