Description
The Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist, built between 1929 and 1930 by J Ninian Comper, is a simple aisleless cruciform church oriented east to west. The exterior is harled with self-coloured painted rendered margins. There is a small vestry located in the northwest re-entrant angle. The west gable features a pointed-headed entrance with a plank door, flanked by a 1929 consecration stone, and topped with a bartizan bellcote that is corbelled out at the apex. The church has four-bay flanks with pointed-headed windows that have simple Y-tracery, matching the fenestration of the transepts and chancel. The windows are fitted with leaded glazing, and the roof is covered with slate.
Inside, the nave and transepts have a panelled dado and are filled with pews that have carved shaped ends and slender balustraded rail backs. The communion rails feature flat carved balusters, and there is a scarlet damask baldachino. Surrounding the church is a simple burial ground.
