Description

The Church of St John the Divine, formerly known as the Church of St John the Baptist, was built in 1872. It is constructed of strongly red brick with sparse stone dressings and features a high-pitched slated roof, reflecting an Early English architectural style. The church includes a nave with a south aisle, a transept that contains a vestry, and a porch. There is a one-bay chancel, and just west of the transept, there is a small square tower topped with a wooden louvred bell stage, a tall pyramidal roof, and a vane.

Inside, the church has a pleasing atmosphere with stone piers, brick arches, and dressings, along with an arch-braced tie-and-collar beam roof. The windows feature good modern leading and some quality stained glass.
