Description
Sluievannachie is a farmhouse built by Peter Mitchell between 1836 and 1838, featuring a single storey and attic with a lower rear wing and a later lower extension. The exterior is harled with granite margins, mainly visible on the attic floor, and includes gabled dormers that break the wallhead, tall diamond stacks, and a Greek cross detail at the apex of the east gable.
The symmetrical south elevation has three bays, with a central gabled porch that features skew putts and a shield dated 1836. The porch contains a central four-panelled timber door topped by a Gothic fanlight with intersecting tracery. The flanking bays have a window on the ground floor and a gabled dormer above.
The windows are predominantly four-pane timber casements, and the roof is covered with graded grey slates. The granite ashlar skews are adorned with moulded skew putts, and the gable end stacks have paired diamond flues on the west and east elevations, with triple flues on the north gable.
Inside, the original floor plan remains largely intact, featuring some raised and folded panelled shutters and predominantly six-panel timber doors. The basement is whitewashed with rubble walls and a beaten earth floor.
Additionally, there is a cheese press on the west elevation, made of pink granite with a grey granite weight.
