Description
Fleuchats is a small, altered single-storey and attic cottage, likely built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It features a three-bay rectangular plan and is located in the heart of Glenconrie, overlooking the east bank of Conrie Water, near the Burn of Fleuchats. The cottage has a small timber porch at the front and a lean-to outshot made of rubble and timber at the rear. The western side is harled, while the rest is whitewashed rubble, with deep-set openings.
The symmetrical entrance elevation on the west side includes a boarded timber centre door, a narrow two-part fanlight, and flanking windows. There is a ground floor window and an attic window on the north gable, as well as another attic window on the south side. The windows feature a four-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, and a vertical two-pane glazing in the timber casement window on the south side. The roof is covered with corrugated iron and has three cast iron rooflights. The whitewashed ashlar stacks show evidence of thackstanes and small cans, with ashlar-coped skews and block skewputts.
Inside, the cottage retains fine details, with timber-lined rooms and ceilings, and ironwork door latches. There are two ground floor rooms; the southern room has a broad high timber fire surround enclosing a central hearth with a working swey, and a box bed with folding doors on the opposite wall. A panelled timber door leads to the northern room, which also features a timber fire surround with a high mantel shelf, along with a row of panelled timber doors that screen a box bed and cupboards. A timber dog-leg staircase leads to a wide landing with an attic bedroom at each end.
