Description
Dovecote Cottage, located on the Inverernan Estate, dates from the earlier to mid 19th century and was altered in 2004. This unusual single-storey, six-bay rectangular building was originally a dovecot and kennel range before being converted into a dwelling. It is situated to the northwest of Inverernan House, near Inverernan Cottages.
The cottage features a shaped Tudor gable with a bracketed alighting ledge, which is topped by a round-headed pigeon loft entrance that includes a two-tiered flight hole and a fleur de lis gablehead finial. The exterior is constructed of coursed granite with granite ashlar dressings.
The symmetrical entrance elevation faces south, showcasing boarded timber doors to the left of the slightly advanced shaped gable and to the outer right bay. The remaining bays have windows that were altered from their original doors. The windows are timber sash and case with a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and has a stone ridge, along with small air vents. The central gable has gablet-coped skews, while the outer gables feature flat-coped skews and block skewputts.
