Description
The Mill of Glenconrie is a high-quality, split-level, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan dwelling, dated 1768. It was built as a dower house for Inverernan and is situated on sloping ground at the mouth of Glen Conrie. The exterior is harled with deep-set openings, and the date is inscribed on the skew.
The entrance elevation faces south and is almost symmetrical, featuring a panelled timber door with a narrow glazed fanlight above, and a small window above the door. There are windows on each floor in the bay to the right, with both first-floor windows positioned close to the eaves. The bay to the left is lower and also has windows on each floor.
The windows are timber sash and case with 9- and 16-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with small grey slates and has a stone ridge. The squared rubble stacks are harled on the outer faces and feature thackstanes and cans. The skews are ashlar-coped with moulded skewputts, one of which is dated to the southwest.
Inside, there is a good decorative scheme that includes four- and six-panelled timber doors. The kitchen door is boarded and features long ironwork hinges and a latch. The kitchen ceiling has exposed beams, and some rooms are timber lined. Each room has a timber fire surround with a granite hearth and a bracketed mantel shelf. The dining room features a swey, while the principal bedroom has a cast iron horseshoe grate. The roof includes adzed beams.
