Description

Crachan Cottages, located in Camserney, likely dates from around 1835 and was altered after a fire around 1990. This building is a single-storey and attic pair of three-bay cottages that have been converted into a single dwelling. It originally served as the farmhouse for Crachan Farm. The exterior features rubble construction with large stone lintels and roughly squared quoins, while the west gable is harled. The roof is reed-thatched and includes distinctive thatched eyelid dormerheads over the attic windows.

The entrance elevation on the south side is roughly symmetrical. The west cottage has a central door beneath a small attic window, while the east cottage features a small gabled rustic porch at its center. The remaining bays have regular window openings, with the ground floor windows being slightly larger than those in the attic. The rear elevation includes two small stone outshots and five later rooflights.

The windows are fitted with six- and eight-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case and casement styles. The doors are boarded timber. The chimney stacks are coped ashlar and harled, topped with cans.

Inside, the property has been altered since the fire but still retains some early details, including a fireplace at the east end with a massive stone lintel, a timber fire surround in the attic bedroom, and a timber dog-leg staircase.

Additionally, there are single-storey rubble ancillary buildings forming an L-plan, featuring timber lintels, small windows, and timber doors.
