Coniston, 18 Kenilworth Road, Bridge Of Allan

Coniston is a detached villa designed by William Mackison around 1853. The building is asymmetrical and consists of two storeys, with a basement due to the sloping ground, and a later single-storey wing on the north side. The villa has a stepped L-plan with a gabled north front. To the left, there is an advanced gabled section featuring a bipartite window on the ground floor with a relieving arch, and a single window on the first floor, along with a Dunblane vesica window at the attic level.

The central entrance bay is gabled and includes a moulded, semi-elliptically arched doorpiece with a panel above. The right-hand bay has a single window with a dormer head on the first floor, which has a flat roof. The west wing features a canted bay with five lights.

On the south front, there is an advanced gabled section to the right, with a canted bay extending through all floors. This bay is broached from a square base and has a cavetto-corbelled back to a square and gabled form, also featuring a Dunblane vesica at the attic level. The villa has semi-elliptically arched openings throughout, most with chamfered arrises, some adorned with square hood-moulds and relieving arches. The gables are decorated with fanciful barge-boarding, and the roofs are slated.
