Viewfirth, 62 Hill Street, Monifieth

Viewfirth, located at 62 Hill Street in Monifieth, is a villa attributed to architect James MacLaren, built in the later 19th century. This two-storey, asymmetrical, three-bay villa is designed in an L-plan and constructed from snecked and random rubble, featuring polished and picked painted dressings and a slate roof.

On the southeast elevation, there is a central entrance with a round-headed doorpiece that has a keystone and a plain glazed fanlight above it. Above the entrance, there is a similarly detailed small segmental arched window, and to the right, a larger window below a finialled dormerhead. The ground floor features a canted window, and there is an advanced gable on the left with similarly detailed ground windows. The villa has 2- and 4-pane sash and case glazing throughout, and deep eaves with corniced gable stacks on both the east and west sides.

The west elevation continues the gable treatment seen on the southeast. On the north (rear) elevation, there is a stair set into the re-entrant angle, which includes a round-headed margin glazed window. There are later additions at the ground floor.
