Description

3 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1896 by A H L Mackinnon. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features three bays. The structure is made of coursed rough-faced grey granite, which is finely finished at the northeast elevation, while the rest of the building uses Aberdeen bond granite. It has a base course, chamfered reveals, and a string course.

The northeast elevation is asymmetrical and includes a deeply chamfered and roll-moulded doorway flanked by decorative scroll stop-chamfers leading to steps. The entrance features a two-leaf panelled timber door with a leaded fanlight above. There is a window in the center of the first floor, a tripartite window with a stepped hoodmould to the left on the ground floor, and a bipartite window on the first floor. To the right, there is an advanced gabled bay with a three-light canted window on the ground floor, a tripartite window with a hoodmould on the first floor, and a bipartite window set in the gablehead.

The northwest elevation is also asymmetrical, with a canted bay advanced to the left and irregular fenestration on the rest of the elevation. There is a single-storey and attic wing adjoining to the right, which includes a doorway on the ground floor.

The southwest elevation features an asymmetrical design with a wing advanced to a gabled bay on the left, and an off-centre window in the attic floor behind it. To the right, there is a gabled bay with a later canted window on the ground floor and a bipartite window on the first floor.

The southeast elevation is asymmetrical as well, with a gabled bay to the right and irregular fenestration to the left.

The villa predominantly has two-pane timber sash and case windows, with decoratively leaded upper sashes on the ground floor at the northeast elevation. The roof is made of green-grey slate with lead ridges, and it features coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. The wallhead, gablehead, and ridge stacks are coped and corniced, with circular cans.

The interior has been subdivided into flats and was not seen in 2000.

The property includes gatepiers and boundary walls, featuring channelled square-plan ashlar gatepiers at the northeast, with a low rough-faced granite wall between them. The remainder consists of a brick and granite coped rubble wall.
