Description

Circa 1855; remodelled by A H L Mackinnon, 1898. 2-storey and attic, L-plan villa, now a hotel. Tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, finely finished to margins. Base course; eaves course; overhanging eaves with timber bargeboards; modern rectangular dormers to attic floor.

SE ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 3-bay; gabled bay advanced to right, canted window to ground floor, single window centred above; doorway to centre bay of ground floor, modern door, window above; tripartite window, corniced with consoles to flanking bay to left, single window to 1st floor above; 4-light dormer to attic floor. Curved angle to outer left comprising 3-bay entrance block; flat-roofed 1898 porch advanced to centre of ground floor, small-pane timber door to centre, flanked by narrow windows to left and right, single windows to left and right returns, windows to flanking bays to left and right; 3 regularly placed windows to 1st floor.

NE ELEVATION: not seen 2000.

NW ELEVATION: gabled; single storey and attic addition to ground floor, with doorway and small window to right return, dormer to attic floor; window set in gablehead; additions to left.

SW ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 3-bay; gabled bay advanced to left, canted window to ground floor, single window centred above; doorway to centre bay of ground floor, modern door, window above; 5-light rectangular-plan window advanced to ground floor of bay to right, single window above. Curved angle to outer right comprising 3-bay entrance block (see above).

Predominantly 2-pan and 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with lead ridges. Coped gablehead and ridge stacks with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 2000.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped curved granite boundary wall to SE and SW surmounted by simple railings; square-plan gatepiers with pyramidal caps to SE; brick coped rubble walls to remainder.
