7 Albert Street Including Boundary Walls And Railings, Aberdeen

3 Albert Street, built around 1840 by Archibald Simpson and completed by Mackenzie and Matthews around 1849, is a two-storey terrace with an attic and half-sunken basement, consisting of 27 bays that include both two and three-bay houses. The exterior is made of coursed granite ashlar, with a finely finished tooled coursed granite rubble basement. Features include a base course, stone steps leading to the doorways, panelled timber doors with glazing at Nos 1, 11, 17, and 23, fretwork timber lintels, letterbox fanlights, recessed aprons at the ground floor, projecting sills at the first floor, and gableted three-light rectangular dormers in the attic.

On the southwest elevation, Nos 1-9 and 17-21 have two bays with regular openings in the basements. Each ground floor doorway is either to the left or right and flanked by a single window. The first floor has regular fenestration, and the attic features dormers flanked by skylights for Nos 3 and 9, while No 17 has a broad rectangular dormer, and the remaining houses have two dormers. Nos 11-15 also have regular basement openings, with doorways flanked by two windows on the ground floor and regular fenestration on the first floor. The attic floor of No 13 has a single dormer flanked by skylights, while Nos 11 and 15 each have two dormers.

The southeast elevation is gabled with off-centre windows on the ground and first floors. The northeast elevation has irregular fenestration with some additions and a variety of dormers and skylights in the attic. The northwest elevation is also gabled, featuring a single window in the centre of the basement and windows on both sides at the ground and first floors.

The windows throughout the building include 2-pane, 4-pane, and 12-pane timber sash and case styles, with various glazing patterns in the attic. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a lead ridge, with coped stone skew and gablehead stacks that have octagonal and circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron, with downpipes recessed into the wall of the principal elevation.

The interiors were not seen in 2000. The boundary walls and railings consist of decorative iron railings that enclose the basement and steps leading to the principal elevation, along with coped rubble walls on the sides and rear.
