Auchingramont Church, Union Street, Hamilton

Auchingramont Church, located on Union Street in Hamilton, was designed by James Salmon in 1860 and showcases a Decorated Gothic style. The building features coursers of differing depths with polished dressings and has a five-bay buttressed rectangular plan. The southwest gabled front presents an interesting composition that steps up from right to left, including a gabled doorway with a hood mould and head label stops. The mouldings die into splays, and above, there is a wheel rose window with a cusped light at the apex of the gable. To the left, a low three-stage tower is adorned with angle buttresses and has two-light plate tracery openings in the top stage, a bold arcaded cornice, and a broach spire featuring two-light belfry lucarnes and a weathercock. The 'aisle' front on the right is recessed at the upper level with a small splayed lancet, while the flanks have depressed single-light windows.

At the northeast end, there is a vestry with a door and window on each gable. The church boasts a fine patterned slated roof and a single-span interior with a U-plan gallery supported by slender cast-iron stanchions. The roof structure includes a braced king post with a painted boarded ceiling. The churchyard is enclosed by square ashlar gatepiers with denticulated cornices and steeply raked capping, along with dwarf walls that have railings between the gablet piers.
