Description

James Salmon 1860. Decorated Gothic. Coursers of

differing depth with polished dressings. 5-bay

buttressed rectangular plan. South west gabled front

interesting composition stepping up from right to left

with gabled doorway, hood mould and head label stops,

mouldings die into splays wheel rose window over, cusped

light at apex of gable, low 3-stage tower to left with

angle buttresses, and 2-light plate tracery top stage

openings, bold arcaded cornice and broach spire with 2-

light belfry lucarnes, and weathercock; 'aisle' front

on right recessed at upper level with small splayed

lancet. Depressed single-light windows at flanks.

Vestry with door and window to each gable at north east

end. Fine patterned slated roof. Single-span interior

with U-plan gallery on slender cast-iron stanchions.

Braced king post roof with painted boarded ceiling.

Churchyard has square ashlar gatepiers with

denticulated cornices and steeply raked capping, dwarf

walls with railings between gablet piers.
