Description

The Manse of Auchingramont Church, located at 62 Union Street in Hamilton, is believed to have been originally built around 1780 and was later rebuilt around 1810 to 1820. A mid-19th century wing on the left side matches the style and materials of the main building.

This two-storey structure features a polished ashlar front and has a basement with a regular cross-patterned stugging on the southeast side. The original house has a three-window front with a pedimented doorpiece supported by fluted Ionic columns, accessed by steps that are enclosed within panelled dies. The ground floor windows have architraves and cornices, while the first floor features architraves and panelled pilaster angles, along with a cornice and blocking course. The wing includes a bipartite window at the ground floor and a single light window above, both treated similarly to the main building, and retains its original glazing.

The roofs are piended and slated, with a rebuilt and rendered stack on the right side. There is a single window on the northwest elevation, and the rear elevation has two original windows and a two-window extension. The southeast elevation features three windows, with the center ground floor window blocked and original glazing in the basement.

In front of the house, there is a low table sundial on a short baluster, floriated at the base, and supported by a square pedestal. A rubble garden terrace wall features an open arcade with diagonal shafts, crenellation, and steps leading down to the basement level. Additionally, there is a rubble garden wall with two panelled ashlar gatepiers topped with fine urns.
