Description
Lounsdale House, located on Gallacher Avenue in Paisley, is a two-storey building with a dormerless attic and basement, dated "May 23rd 1788." The house features a symmetrical three-bay front with asymmetrical single-storey wings. The front is made of painted ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed of painted rubble. The basement has tripartite windows with a band course above.
The entrance includes a pedimented doorpiece with a fluted frieze, architrave, and cavetto splay, accessed by steps with a plain iron handrail. The door is panelled, and the ground floor has tripartite windows. The first floor features 2-pane sashes with lintels that connect to an eaves band. The building has dentilled eaves and a cornice with a central pediment, which includes an oculus in the tympanum and urns at the apex and right angle of the pediment.
The slate roof has straight skews and panelled ashlar end stacks. The wings are similarly detailed, featuring angle pilasters and dentilled pedimented gables with slate roofs. The left wing retains an urn and has a tripartite window at the front, with a door and a later canted window on the side. The right wing has a blind gable end linked to the centre by a single-storey bay with a bipartite window. The rear elevation is irregular due to various additions, including a gable end of a projecting staircase bay at the centre of the main block. The interior retains some original features but was remodelled in the later 19th century.
