Description

Whiteleigh is an Arts and Crafts villa designed by architect T G Abercrombie, featuring an asymmetrical layout with one and two stories and a three-story tower. The exterior is finished in harl with red sandstone dressings and includes half-timbering. The building showcases a variety of glazing styles, including casements, mullion and transom windows, and a bracketed timber oriel.

The north front features an advanced off-center half-timbered gable with barge boarding and a square tower in the re-entrant angle to the left. There is a half-timbered porch at the base of the tower, a mullion and transom window on the first floor, and a half-timbered second floor topped with a finialled, wide-eaved pyramidal roof. The south elevation has a rounded southeast corner with a conical roof and an advanced half-timbered barge-boarded gable to the southwest, connected by a verandah supported by four timber Tuscan columns and a balustrade, with a swept dormer above and barge-boarded gables.

The east elevation also features a half-timbered barge-boarded gable, while the west elevation has a barge-boarded gable with a swept dormer in the re-entrant angle to the south, along with single-storey offices that have a piended roof. The roof is covered with red tiles and ridge tiles throughout. The harled chimney stacks are adorned with ashlar bands and cornices. An intricately planned single-storey conservatory is attached to the southwest of the house. Inside, there are surviving chimney pieces and panelling, including a fine inglenook in the dining room supported by two Tuscan columns.
