Description
Balgonie is a baronial-style house built around 1897, with a later single-storey extension. The main structure is two storeys high with an attic, constructed from snecked rubble and featuring ashlar dressings, including angle quoins. The elevations are asymmetrical, highlighted by crow-stepped gables and a parapet above the porch. Notable features include a fine wrought-iron bell-pull and lamp flanking the entrance door, which is fitted with brass lock plates and handles. The porch has a bartisaned parapet, while a three-storey stair tower boasts a balustraded parapet and open bartisans. To the left, there is a gabled bay and a circular corner topped with a conical slate roof. The windows are primarily sash style with roll-moulded reveals, along with two canted, corbelled, and coped oriel windows on the south front and one on the west front. The northwest corner features a corbelled bartisan on the first and second floors, capped with a conical roof. The north elevation includes a facetted tower. The roofs are covered in slate and have end stacks. The single-storey extension to the west is harled with ashlar dressings and includes a five-light window with 12-pane sashes. It has a piended slate roof with a wallhead stack at the rear. Additionally, there is an attached cast iron bird bath in the shape of a shell, supported by a cherub.
