Description

26 St John's Road is a baronial house built in 1896, featuring two storeys and an irregular three-bay plan. The exterior is made of coursed, squared, and snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a stepped dividing band course, and stugged quoins, along with crowstepped gables and thistle and ball finials.

On the south entrance elevation, there is a roll-moulded near-central doorway, a stained glass window to the right, and a carved decorative tablet above that is dated 1896. The first floor has two single windows. To the left, there is a conical-roofed stair tower with a stained glass window and single windows above and below. An advanced bay to the outer left features a three-light canted bay window at both the ground and first floors, along with a single window at the gable. Similarly, the right side has a three-light canted bay window at the ground and first floors in an advanced bay, a single window set in the gablehead, and a conical-roofed bartizan to the outer right with a single window. There are modern brick extensions to the outer left, outer right, and rear, as well as a conservatory to the outer left.

The house predominantly has four-pane timber sash and case windows, along with Velux rooflights and stained glass. The roof is covered with grey slate and features crowstepped skews, moulded skewputts, and corniced ridge and wallhead stacks with circular cans.

The boundary walls consist of a low, coped squared, snecked, and stugged sandstone wall, topped with pyramidal caps on square-plan gatepiers.
