Corstorphine Public Library, 12 Kirk Loan, Edinburgh

Corstorphine Public Library, located at 12 Kirk Loan in Edinburgh, was designed by E J MacRae in 1927. This single-storey building features a basement and has a T-shaped plan. It is constructed from squared and snecked lightly bull-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, and includes a base course and blocking course.

The northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has steps leading up to an advanced gabled entrance porch. This porch features a roll-moulded doorpiece and a two-leaf boarded timber door, topped by an illuminated fanlight. Above the door is an engraving that reads 'Corstorphine Public Library', with the Edinburgh City Arms positioned above it. Flanking the recessed bays are pairs of 3-light windows.

The library predominantly has fixed 6-pane timber windows and is topped with a grey slate roof, stone skews, and a central cupola. It also includes cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the library has modern fittings, but retains an original timber clock in the northeast corner.

Surrounding the library are low coped boundary walls, with gates at the central entrance and to the outer left. The property is enclosed by black railings and features coped ashlar gatepiers topped with Art Nouveau style lamp standards.
