7 Corstorphine High Street, Corstorphine, Edinburgh

7 Corstorphine High Street is a pair of plain classical villas built in the earlier 19th century. The buildings are two stories tall and have a rectangular plan with seven bays. They are finished in painted harl, with painted ashlar surrounds around the openings. The entrance features Ionic columned doorpieces topped with a plain timber entablature, and No 7 has ball finials. Above the central entrance to No 7, there is a carved ogival panel.

On the south elevation, the entrance to No 5 has a step leading up to a timber panelled door with a letterbox fanlight, and there is a single window above it, along with flanking windows on both the ground and first floors. The central doorway to No 7 has a glazed timber door and a similar letterbox fanlight, with a window aligned above and flanking windows on both floors. There is a low screen wall to the outer left with a timber boarded door and a carved panel above.

The north elevation, facing Corstorphine High Street, shows an unaltered rear elevation for No 7, featuring a round-arched stair window with Y tracery in the upper sash. No 5 has a large, modern two-storey flat-roofed addition.

Both villas have timber sash and case windows, with No 5 having a 2-pane replacement and No 7 featuring 12-pane windows. The roofs are grey slate with a piended design and coped wallhead stacks topped with corniced cans.

Inside, No 7 was not seen in 1997, but No 5 has good decorative plasterwork, including a low relief figurative frieze on the cornices and door architraves.

The boundary walls are made of coped sandstone rubble, extending to the street and rear. There are coped gatepiers, with timber gates for No 7 and iron gates for No 5 at the street elevation.
