Description

2 Burgess Terrace is a late 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house featuring baronial and Jacobean detailing, with a single-storey wing attached to the rear. The building is constructed of cream sandstone coursed rubble, accented with polished ashlar dressings.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. The doorpiece is adorned with a cornice and a carved strapwork panel featuring a rose finial. Above the doorway, there is a single window on the first floor that breaks the eaves, set within a round arched pediment, also topped with a carved rose finial. To the outer left on the ground floor, there is another single window with a corniced architrave and a carved strapwork panel above it. The first floor above this window also breaks the eaves and features a pediment with a thistle finial. To the outer right, an advanced crowstep gabled bay includes a full-height, three-light canted window, with a cornice above the ground floor window, cable moulding at the eaves course, and a carved panel at the gable head, topped with a thistle finial.

The north elevation showcases a crowstepped M gable with a central bipartite leaded glass stair window. The windows throughout the house are made of plate glass and timber sash and case. The roofs are pitched with grey slate, featuring fish scale slating on the canted window, and there are rendered and coped wallhead stacks. The original cast-iron rainwater goods are still in place.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by a low, coped boundary wall along the street, with replacement railings.
