Description
Linnburn is a 2-storey, L-plan villa built in 1909 by Gavin Paterson. The exterior features harled walls with red sandstone ashlar dressings and a plain red tile roof. It has a base course at the front, ashlar-margine windows that have been fitted with uPVC frames, crowstepped gables with beak skewputts, and corniced stacks topped with uniform terracotta cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods include decorative hoppers.
On the front elevation, there is a segmental entrance tower at the left re-entrant angle, which has a 2-leaf panelled door with a moulded doorcase. This is topped with a mannered, corniced, and voluted pediment featuring an armorial panel depicting the staff of Aesculapius. Above the door is a single window with a continuous hoodmould, and the wallhead is corniced with a ball-finalled conical roof. To the left of the entrance tower is a bipartite stair window. The right gable is advanced and features a 4-light canted window with a facetted roof on the ground floor and a tripartite window on the first floor. There is also a later single-storey garage on the far right that is designed in a compatible style. The side elevations include a blank gable to the left with a stack outshot from the attic, and a blank gable to the right where the garage is located on the ground floor, along with a wallhead gable stack with an outshot.
The rear elevation is not visible, and the interior has not been seen.
