Auction Market, Hyndford Road, Lanark

The Auction Market on Hyndford Road in Lanark is a later 19th century octagonal building designed for auction purposes. It features snecked and stugged ashlar stonework with polished dressings, a plinth, angle margins, and a bracketed eaves course. Most of the building, except for three northern bays, has semi-circular headed central windows flanked by two bull's eye windows, with a door located in the eastern bay below the central window, leading to a projecting porch. The roof is facetted and covered with slate, incorporating roof lights, an octagonal louvred cupola topped with a bellcast roof and weathervane. Inside, original fittings include a central ring surrounded by a fence supported by cast iron standards and ball finials.
