Description
The gate piers at the Auction Market on Hyndford Road in Lanark date from around 1820. They consist of a pair of wrought- and cast-iron former toll gates, which feature spear finials and a cross bar decorated with quatrefoils. These gates are flanked by square-plan ornamental cast-iron gatepiers, which are also adorned with quatrefoil designs, reeded and foliated panels, and topped with ogee caps. To the left of the main gates, there is a wicket gate constructed in a similar style, accompanied by a tubular ogee-capped gatepier. The gates are connected to a round-coped rubble boundary wall by straight flanking wing railings, which also have spear finials.
