Description
The gates at the Grant Street Entrance of Cullen House date from the early to mid 19th century and were restored in 1985-1986 by architect Douglas Forrest. They consist of a pair of cast-iron carriage gates featuring decorative spearhead detailing. These gates are supported by a pair of slender octagonal gatepiers, each adorned with cusped panelled facets and topped with a crenellated corona tap that ends in a stiff leaf finial.
On either side, there is a curved low rubble screen wall made of ashlar coping, which supports matching spearhead cast-iron railings. The terminal square piers, made of harled ashlar, are capped with substantial cast-iron corona caps that match the gatepiers.
