Description
Muirglen is a later 19th century building designed in the Scottish Baronial style. It is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical layout constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins. The building has an irregular L-plan, with an advanced bay on the right side that has splayed angles at the ground floor and is corbelled to a square shape at the first floor.
There is a two-storey entrance bay located in the re-entrant angle, which is also corbelled out at the first floor. The entrance door has a shouldered roll mould. An angle turret, which is corbelled from the first floor, rises above the eaves and is topped with a conical fish scale roof, positioned at the angle with a recessed right bay.
The right bay features a bipartite window at the ground floor, complete with a hood mould that has a raised central panel, and a single window above it. To the right of this bay are two lower bays, with the outer bay advanced. Each of these has a single window on each storey set in a recess, which is set back and has a decorative band course at the first floor. The first floor window has a stepped hood mould and a wall-head gable.
The advanced bay on the left has a single window at the ground floor, which is corbelled at the first floor with a bipartite window. There is also a recessed bay with a gable end facing the east front. All gables are crow-stepped, and the building is topped with a slate roof.
