Description
Brandon Chambers is a three-storey and attic office building designed by Alexander Cullen in 1898, located at 14-18 Brandon Street in Hamilton. The building features a modern shopfront on the ground floor, with a façade made of tooled red ashlar, some of which is painted, and a slate roof. A string course runs along the first floor, topped by a moulded wallhead cornice supported by decorated corbels and corniced stacks.
The front elevation includes a central doorcase with a keystoned and moulded round head, flanked by pilasters featuring sculpted lizard and squirrel motifs. Above the doorcase is a cornice adorned with sculpted bird motifs. The centre of the first and second floors showcases a tripartite oriel window, which is supported by a sculpted grape and vine corbel panel and features raised lettering that reads 'Brandon Chambers' in a panel between the first and second floors, just below an egg-and-dart moulded cill course. On either side of this oriel window, there are tripartite windows set in full-height panels with nook and mullion shafts, topped with tripartite round-headed arches that display sculpted grape and vine decoration. The building is capped with three pedimented dormers.
